Celebrating a good harvest.
Despite bad weather and having to cut down most of our crops due to insects, we had a very good harvest! To celebrate we had some meat for supper and ordered Chinese takea
way. We order meat for special days and given the hard work we put in the last season the reward was well deserved!

Rose and the Camel
Recently in Jinja there was the Agricultural show that comes every year. None of us really had the time to go this year so we missed most of the excitement, however Rose the lucky girl spotted camel riders passing our compound and asked if she could take a ride. This was her first time seeing and riding the camels.

Education System Uganda
The system of education in Uganda has a
structure of;
- · Nursery/kindergarten: duration of three years
- · Primary education: duration of 7 years
- · Secondary education: duration of 6 years
- · Post-secondary education: duration of 3 to 5 years
The best possible mark pupils can achieve in primary level is a total of four, while the worst is a total of 36 (nine points for each subject, which means a fail).
Students with between four and 12 points pass the PLE with a first grade, or division one.
Those with scores between 13 and 23 get a second grade; 24 to 29 get a third grade, while those with 30 to 34 pass with a fourth grade.
Pupils who pass their PLE can progress to
secondary school. This has two stages; the first four years, senior one (S1) to
senior four (S4), constitute the O-level period. At the end of S4, students sit
the second major national exams known as the Uganda Certificate of Education
(UCE) or simply O-level examinations.
Students who pass their O-level exams may
progress to A-levels or the Higher School Certificate (HSC). This lasts two
years, S5 and S6, after which students sit for the Uganda Advanced Certificate
of Education (UACE) examinations, also known simply as A-levels. All these
three annual national exams are sat between October and December.
Students who pass their A-levels may choose
to progress to university, where they can study for degrees, or to other
tertiary institutions that award diplomas and certificates. Some wealthier
parents send their children to universities and colleges abroad.

Lynn
Für 5 Monate war Lynn eine freiwillige bei
uns.
dein Studium!

Pigs 4 Education
Pursuit for Sanyu amongst its programs is a
Children Education Sponsorship program where children are sponsored through
nursery, primary and secondary school.
“Pig 4 Education" is one of our funding plans in the program, where you can donate a minimum of $50 that in turn buys us a piglet that in turn we sell off to sponsor a primary student through one term once the piglet has matured. For $150 we get three piglets that covers one term in a senior secondary school.

Agricultural Farm
Agricultural Farming:
Our farms are spread within the area we are based and we have 4 staff members who work on them. We use more natural ways of chasing away unwanted bugs from the plants seeing as we have people who are allergic to the chemicals that are in the sprays. This program also generates most of our food and works closely with our Pre-Kitchen program.

Lynn
So for five months we had Lynn, working as a volunteer. She was wonderful to have for five months and will be missed. Lynn worked closely with the kids, they loved to be around her and had great fun along the way.
The videos on our YouTube channel are thanks to her that we were able to get everything done on such short notice. While it was a big change as a German, Lynn adjusted quickly and along the way improved her English.

She got along well with everyone and wasn't afraid to try new things. Like learning how to sew and make blankets or digging in the garden. Lynn thank you for everything and we wish you all the best in your studies!

Pre-kitchen
Our Pre-kitchen:
This is a new addition to our program and
started June 2016. We have people who are allergic to the preservation
chemicals found in most of the foods, therefore we create fresh and organic products
such as tomato ketchup, tomato sauce, chilli sauce and burger spread. We are in
the process of training a staff member and expanding our products. The program
works closely with our Agricultural Farming program. We have a farm where all
the ingredients are planted and harvested, if we have low season and do not get
enough ingredients we then buy them fresh from other local farmers who use no
chemicals.
